Just an update for anyone reading this. I am the guy that returned this phone. Just by a chance, I was able to buy a new Xiaomi 14 Ultra in sealed box for just 999€, in nice white color. I hesitated for about 0,176 second before pressing the buy button as this phone is normally sold for 1499€ here and sometimes for 1199€. That is insane and pretty much a great deal.
As I previously thought, the variable aperture really helps and is great. It is nice be able to be in control of how much do I want the background to be blurred. Photo of any text on paper is super sharp with f4.0 and with f1,63 looks exactly like the Vivo X100 pro, so not much any good, not sharp and blurry. The same with product labels etc... And the camera app is much better on 14U. So far I like it very much.

I have noticed this today. Pictures sent to me via a 3rd party once opened on that app the picture is bright and punchy yet when the same picture is opened in the album stock app it's washed out not as punchy.
The issue and fix is with the display colour setting. I had mine set to standard default yet as soon as I switched it to bright colour setting the pictures in the stock album app looks the same as on the 3rd party apps no more washed out pics.

Hey, I've recently noticed an issue with the stock gallery app on FuntouchOS and OriginOS where the colors displayed are very washed out when compared to when images are seen on 3rd party galleries or editing software.
I have posted images on r/vivo and r/VivoX100Pro, and have sent a ticket to the OriginOS side of support to signal the issue.
It's hard to get the word out and so far I've seen 6 out of 7 users affected by it, which is hard to extrapolate to a larger pourcentage but it seems to be a widespread issue that went unseen!

GSMArena need to update the selfie camera specs since there was a new update in Origin and Funtouch OS that enables 4K recording on the selfie cam

OnePlus 12 kinda killed this phone tbh
You can buy a 1TB 16GB OP12 for cheaper than 512GB Vivo X100 Pro. They really need to check their prices.

I doesn't help much. You are loosing details that way and it looks worse than on my old phone. The more I compare photos, the more I am glad I had returned it. There is something wrong with the photo processing anyway. It makes strange "halo" everywhere on lots of objects, near or far, that other phones do not do.

If you have a problems with making photos of an A4 papers, it is more likely due to the sensor size and short focusing distance. Use 2x zoom on the main camera in this case.

Everything Works Fine as long as you have a vivo account and logged on to it.

I returned mine back because it couldn't even take any close shot clear and crisp. Impossible to take a picture of A4 letter that my 5YO phone is able to. With any lens. When shooting from say 40-50cm distance with main lens, it is a blurry mess and objects have strange halo around them. Every picture looked like I needed glasses or something, not pleasant to look at them.
Other than that, the main sensor is quite good even in low light conditions and 2x zoom. Providing you don't take any close-ups that is. I liked their processing approach, no over the top de-noising and image looks softer rather over-processed mess (oil painting).
Telephoto is great too, capable of very nice macros. Some pictures were really sick.
Then there is an ultrawide camera. Rather useless waste of space. They should have used some normal wide lens with a bigger sensor capable of crisps close-ups. That would be a killer triple camera setup for me.
Battery is insanely good, soc doesn't extremely heat up. The phone is fast. Camera focus fast, it takes pictures like a machine gun. Yes, the back on the asteroid black variant is slippery. Curves are nice to hold in hand. Curved screen is kind of ok I guess. At least you don't get stuck on screen protector using gestures which is nice. GSM signal is ok, GPS signal ok, no problems with bluetooth and USB file transfer fast as well.
I really liked that phone, maybe one day, then next model...
